Cinemas around Heslington

City Screen Picturehouse York

13-17 Coney St, York YO1 9QL, UK – 0871 902 5726

The cinema is great, the food is great, the service is not so good. We went on a Saturday and there was a 15 minute gap between when breakfast and lunch can be ordered - after being served so slowly we went over the breakfast allotted time, we then had to sit and wait until they would even let us place orders for lunch - which then took ages as (and I quote) "we just got loads of orders all at once". Not exactly surprising given all the people waiting an extra 15 minutes to order! Next visit their highly advertised mulled cider, at 6pm on a cold day, was "just heating up, it'll be 5 minutes" for half an hour. Need to employ some better staff and/or give them better training.

A great concept - a three screen cinema, cafe bar with an events room for live shows in the basement. It's right on the river, with outside seating for the summer months. A membership is well worth investing in for the discounts it offers.

Everyman Cinema York

Blossom St, York YO24 1AJ, UK – 01904 432288

Really lovely cinema experience. It is more money than the multiplex but worth it if you value the more personal experience. Food is nice but small. The booze is varied but pricey. The staff are great and the sofas are lovely to share with that special someone. They have done a great job of doing up the place and hopefully they can turn enough profit to keep the place open for good

The good. Great seats, we had a two seat settle. Nice range of alcohol available. Popcorn was good and not overly expensive. Great vibe to the place. The bad. It needs finishing off! It has not been open long, but get the contractors back in. Three people behind the bar, and one till worked, barely.

Theatres for Heslington

York Theatre Royal

St Leonard's Pl, York YO1 7HD, UK – 01904 623568

Went to see a Pantomime here after the restauration and I find it so beautiful. Good sound, good view from the balcony and really nice coffee before get inside. Well done to the York Theatre Royal

We went to York Theatre Royal today to see the panto. As always it was very funny. Best panto for miles around. Great family experience. We love it every year and have done for years.
